Job Description:
Ability to work with a team and a strong commitment to teaching/training at an undergraduate level within a research-intensive environment

- Identifying the necessary academic support structures required in each discipline in the Faculty of Science
- Training of and working with writing fellows for the Faculty of Science
- Collaborating with other colleagues in the Science Teaching and Learning Unit, Faculty and University on projects relating to teaching and learning as and when required by the Head of
- the STLU and/or Assistant Dean: Teaching and Learning
- Lending support to other colleagues in the Science Teaching and Learning Unit and Deanery as and when required by the Head of the STLU and/or Assistant Dean: Teaching and Learning
- Development of excellent critical literacy in students in the Faculty of Science
- Working with and supporting academic staff in the development of Writing Intensive Teaching pedagogies
- The development and delivery of relevant academic programmes
- Work with Wits Writing Centre to manage the Faculty of Science walk-in writing centre
Job Requirements:
- Ability to support development of writing intensive teaching pedagogies and to develop content and resources aimed at improving student’s writing skills
- University teaching experience
- A PhD or evidence of sufficient progress towards the completion of a PhD degree in a relevant field
- Expertise in academic writing and/or academic writing support
- Publications an advantage
- Ability to work as a facilitator/consultant/writing fellow and to select and train writing fellows for the Faculty of Science
- A creative approach to the skills development of students, and development of support structures for students via appropriate educational tools
- Basic data analysis
- Expertise in development of academic literacy
