Job Description:

SpaceX is currently seeking talented individuals for a Process Development Engineer position on the Thermal Hardware Engineering team. You will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to rapidly design, build, and manage processes required for mass production of Starship Heat Shield tiles.

Job Responsibilities:

• Model fluids routing, mechanical assemblies, and support structures using CAD software and perform stress analysis
• Ability to create and release manufacturing drawings and provide clear instructions for build and fabrication
• Interact with vendors and contractors to resolve technical issues
• Develop and implement the manufacturing production systems for heat shield material production (preventative maintenance scheduling, control charts, quality metrics, etc.)
• Utilize knowledge of industrial mechanical and fluid systems, chemistry, materials science, and general automation controls to design, build, and manage material manufacturing systems
• Write procedures for system activation, manufacturing operations, and maintenance procedures
• Design, build, and manage processes for the materials manufacturing of ceramic raw materials for the production of heat shield tile
• Select components, such as sensors, valves, pumps, piping, and tanks, and provide detailed specifications for their purchase
• Monitor and own system build and test, hands-on, in the field, alongside skilled technician teams

Job Requirements:

• Experience using SQL or other similar data base systems
• 4+ years of experience within the last 2 years working with an industrial, chemical, or material manufacturing process
• Experience using Siemens NX, SOLIDWORKS, or similar CAD software
• Hands-on experience working with complex fluid or mechanical systems in a professional setting
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other engineering discipline
• Experience drafting and updating piping and instrumentations schematics
• Familiarity with industrial control systems (such as PLCs)
• Excellent written and oral communication, especially translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated expertise in the design, build, and operation of dense or fibrous slurry processing equipment
