Become a part of the Starship Electrical Hardware Development team and support the mission to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel – opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space, and ultimately make human kind a multi-planetary species.

- Design and test for electromagnetic and power quality compatibility requirements
- Work with cross functional teams to optimize manufacturing rate, quality, testability, mechanical packaging, thermal, software, and dynamic control
- Collaborate on motor selection, architecture development, and system trades to maximize overall performance, system reliability, and cost of mass to orbit
- Perform power device component selection and qualification, along with enabling a robust supply chain
- Perform schematic capture and review for flight layout designs, along with contributing to critical power stage layout
- Manage development scope, and schedules in support of vehicle milestone targets
- Provide robust analysis and simulation work products, along with bench test and environmental testing to ensure we field reliable products
- Own inverter products through the full lifecycle, from concept through flight and sustaining
- Investigate line-side production defects with timely troubleshooting, along with spending time building and installing flight hardware to understand production costs
- Create high quality product technical documentation and conduct formal design reviews
- Characterize hardware to fully understand performance capabilities and limitations
- Support field defects with troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and field replacements as required
- Perform sub-system and system level integration testing to validate system compatibility
Job Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and testing power electronics, inverters, or related electronics (research and extracurricular academic projects qualify)
- Experience designing power electronics operating at hundreds of volts and tens of kilo-watts
- Proficiency with design and testing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
- Proficiency with Python
- Experience with test systems, test automation, and data reduction
- Experience with commercial product development
- Familiarity with high voltage safety procedures, including arc flash and lock out-tag out
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Passion for spaceflight and power electronics in high-reliability applications
- Experience with motor selection, parameter identification, and control design
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Hands on experience with electrical test equipment (scopes, meters, etc.)
- Robust foundational knowledge of power electronics and analytical methods
- Ability to work in a fast paced, self-driven, and demanding environment
