Job Description:
Serco supports the US EPA as a prime for their Region IV Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract which supports their field services, laboratory and quality assurance branches. Our team supports EPA in four areas: data validation, air audits, analytical laboratory, and field investigation/field equipment center.

- Work independently on administrative and technical projects assigned by EPA via Technical Directives.
- Conduct organic extractions utilizing EPA methods.
- Manage a team of chemists performing metals preparation.
- Conduct metals digestion and analysis utilizing EPA methods.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments.
- Perform peer review for inorganic data validation.
- Monitor workflow for incoming samples and manage backlog and due dates.
- Perform SOP review, internal audit, and corrective actions when needed.
- Demonstrate proper cleaning techniques for work area, instrumentation, and equipment.
- Interpret and evaluate data and upload results to Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for final reporting.
- Perform Data Validation per National Functional Guidelines and US EPA SOPs.
- Manage a team of chemists performing organic extractions.
- Prepare reagents and samples to be used in performing assays.
- Perform review of organic and inorganic analytical data to ensure completeness and legal defensibility of results.
- Perform sample disposal and Laboratory clean ups for GCP.
- Manage general laboratory operations and functions, including monitoring and requesting supplies and materials to maintain lab supply inventory.
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrate excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of chemical families and compatibilities.
- Excellent computer skills and proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Experience with metals preparation and organic extractions by EPA methods.
- A solid background in analysis and interpretation of data.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to think critically.
- Clearance sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
- Hands-on experience operating GC and GC/MS instrumentation.
- Good written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, documentation skills, and attention to detail are essential.
- Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry or a related scientific discipline and eight years of experience; or a Master’s degree and six years of experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- An Active EPA Issued Public Trust Clearance befor start.
