Job Description:
As an Underwriting Assistant, you will provide technical and clerical support to underwriters according to established procedures, rules and regulations under general supervision. You will serve as the first level of authority and filter and prepare incoming applications for underwriter assistants and/or underwriting review. You will correspond with insurance brokers as needed.

- Contacts brokers for missing and/or additional information.
- Attaches quote letters to Dias and miscellaneous correspondence to files.
- Filters incoming tasks to Underwriting. Analyzes policies within defined guidelines for compliance.
- Maintains professional relationships with the underwriters and assistants to ensure work is processed consistently with underwriting guidelines.
- Within defined company guidelines completes peer and agency internal audit worksheets.
- Assists in underwriting operations including rating of quotes, issuance of binders, creating invoices, creating endorsements, policy issuance and ongoing policy maintenance.
- Responsible for processing Broker of Record letters (BOR’s).
- Ensures files are complete, current, and properly filed. Request any missing documentation or information from broker as needed. Completes or escalates the task as specified by the guidelines.
- Responds to broker inquiries: info about policies & status of account and requests loss runs.
- Reviews multiple policy maintenance items (i.e. inspections, endorsements, applications, claims, cancellations reinstatements, and unregistered mail) for accuracy.
Job Requirements:
- Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
- Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
- Experience: One year of related experience in an insurance processing, customer service or underwriting support role preferred.
- Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Prefer familiarity with insurance and business concepts and terminology. Written communication skills for policy issue and correspondence; verbal communication skills for contact with brokers and other associates.
- Ability to compile, process policy information, and make decisions when to inquire for additional information. Ability to operate personal computer and related insurance processing and business software.
- Education: Undergraduate studies preferred.
