Job Description: The CSIR has a vacancy for NLP Researcher/Developer in the Voice Computing Research Group impact area within the NextGen Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The incumbent will be responsible to undertake research, development and implementation on various systems and tools relating to natural language processing (NLP) in a research and development (R&D) environment. This position is based in Pretoria. [the_ad id="29344"] Job Responsibilities: Analyse, design, develop, implement and evaluate new and/or legacy systems and tools within the voice computing field; Conduct applied research, experimental development and/or pilot implementation as part of a multidisciplinary team focusing on language modelling for voice computing; Understand the basic tools and techniques of project management and can participate in the planning, monitoring and control of small projects. Contribute to research and development projects relating to voice computing, guides troubleshooting of problems, and directs implementation of language modelling for voice computing projects, according to best practice; Contribute to the integration of various areas of voice computing-related research in order to develop new technology offerings and improve existing technology offerings; Participate in relevant internal project teams. Understand and respond to the needs and requirements of internal/external clients; Participate in research and development projects relating to voice computing; undertake troubleshooting of problems, and implement language modelling for voice computing projects, according to best practice; Job Requirements: Ability to interact efficiently with diverse teams of people, including researchers, customers, analysts, developers, and engineers An understanding of basic project management processes; Formal NLP-related studies and/or courses will be advantageous; Must be interested in language and developing language processing systems with a strong linguistic focus; An understanding of the innovation value chain – taking research to market; Evidence of successful involvement in language technology-related projects will be advantageous; Good interpersonal, organising, written communication and presentation skills.
